How Driving an EV can Improve Your Overall Health

Air pollution is one of the biggest public health issues facing the country. We’re learning more about the impact carbon emissions and pollution from cars is having on our health all the time. It’s thought that it could be the cause of thousands of premature deaths every year, contributing to lung conditions and several UK cities and towns have air pollution levels over a WHO safe limit.

And pollution disproportionately affects children, the elderly and low-income communities. In short, it’s essential that we continue to find safer ways to live and work – starting with lower emissions and reducing the UK’s carbon footprint.

At 3F EV, we believe that electric vehicles have a big part to play in this and reducing health issues.

Impact on the Climate

Petrol and diesel vehicles are negatively impacting our environment. The facts are clear and this is backed up by scientists and research from all over the world.

Vehicle emissions and greenhouse gases are being continuously pumped into our atmosphere and affecting everything from temperatures, to sea levels to animal behaviour.

Electric vehicles can help to reduce carbon footprints and eliminate tailpipe emissions by reducing the reliance on petrol and diesel. When cars are switched to an EV model, they’re estimated to save 133.1g/km of CO2.

The impact on the climate can make air more toxic to breathe in, environments more volatile and unsafe and generally lead to global instability in temperatures and conditions, which can lead to public health crises.

Air Pollution

More and more of us are living in cities and urban environments. They’re full of cars, buses and lorries, pumping emissions into the atmosphere and the air that commuters, pedestrians are breathing in. Airborne pollutants are rife in urban spaces and can cause short and long-term health issues.

Look at London which has dangerous levels of air quality. Stats show that 9 out of 10 people living in London live in areas where “PM2.5 particles exceed World Health Organization guidelines by more than 50 percent”. This is thought to contribute to 29,000 premature deaths in the UK each year.

The World Health Organisation has conducted research that has found that air pollution can cause “cancer, adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes and lowering of male fertility”.

It’s simple, driving an EV is helping to improve the potential to improve your own health and the health of those around you.

And messages are clearly filtering through to consumers with sales of EVs rising 11% on last year in the UK.
